Free Credit Report?
Recently the site FreeCreditReport.com was hit hard by the FTC regarding the deception of their marketing and advertising. If you’ve ever seen one of their commercials on television, you would figure that you would be entitled to receive a free credit report from their site. Unfortunately, to receive that “free” credit report you need to sign up for a monthly subscription for a fee of $14.95/month.
Although the marketing has been very successful for Experian, the owner of FreeCreditReport.com, the FTC now requires FreeCreditReport.com to have a disclaimer on the top of their site informing viewers that AnnualCreditReport.com allows you to pull free copies of your credit report as required by Congress. This may cut into their bottom line.
If you are looking to view a copy of your credit report, I encourage you to go to AnnualCreditReport.com and access one for no cost. In 2003, Congress mandated that consumers are entitled to a free credit report from each of the three credit bureaus each year. You can claim your free copy of your credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com.
