Contentment

Can we be content? In a recent bible study we were reading Philippians and a verse that struck us all was:

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” -Philippians 4: 12-13

To be content is a place we all strive to achieve. In today’s world, with advertising all round us we are constantly wooed to go, go, go and spend, spend, spend. Yet with the changing world now is the time to simplify. Contentment can be found in prayer, opening our hearts to hear God’s word. Contentment can also be found in spending time with family and loved ones. One-on-one time, turn off the advertising and turn on conversation. Contentment can be found in the silence, taking time to be quiet and listen to our hearts and our minds.

I encourage you to try a little this week. Turn off the TV, open your bible and read a verse or two. Bask in the quiet, the silence. Pull out the cards or a game and play with family or friends. Take time to really connect with God and those around you. Contentment can be found – we only need to look for it.
