Conserving Energy and Saving Money

Here are some excellent ideas on how to conserve energy and save you money:
- Turn down your thermostat or install a programmable thermostat.
- Turn your water heater down.
- Buy energy efficient light bulbs.
- Only run full loads for the dishwasher and washing machine, and use cold water as much as possible.
- Dry full loads and make sure to clean the lint tray before each load.
- The average household does 329 loads of laundry per year! Try to limit your loads if possible.
- Cover your pots and pans when cooking. This will keep heat in and cook your food faster, while using less energy.
- Unplug items when you’re not using them. Laptops, hair dryers, lamps, etc. all use energy even if they aren’t in use.
- If you live in an area where winter gets cold make sure to seal your windows with plastic to keep heat from escaping.
- Cold/warm air can also leak in so make sure to cover any areas you may find this happening. Electrical outlets and cracks around the door are the two most common areas for cold/warm air to come in.
With rates increasing and the economy unpredictable, we are living in uncertain times. A few small changes can make a big difference. Lifestyle changes can be difficult but these days they may be necessary.
